The Archivio Faunistico della Campania (ARCFAUNA Campania) is a project born in 2024 from a collaboration between the Department of Biology (Federico II University of Naples), the Experimental Zooprophylactic Institute of Southern Italy, the Campania Region Venatorial Faunal Observatory and the Campania Region.
ARCFAUNA Campania is a digital database of fauna on a regional scale, enriched with constantly updated data.
The objective is to collect, standardize and digitize the data currently existing on wildlife in Campania
(with particular reference to venable fauna) of all the subjects who, directly and/or indirectly, are involved in the study and monitoring of the same.
Currently, these data constitute a considerable amount of information which is often fragmented and heterogeneous,
difficult to consult, which is why they often lose their value and potential.
ARCFAUNA Campania could represent an important point of reference during the structuring phase of strategic wildlife management initiatives
on a local and regional scale (e.g. organization of hunting activities, development of conservation plans for vulnerable species, actions aimed at containing
problematic species and their impact on habitats, scientific research activities and public awareness activities).
The archived data can be easily consulted when organizing hunting activities and developing conservation plans
for vulnerable species and/or actions aimed at containing problematic species
No less important, a digital database can be considered the virtual transposition of a paper archive, which allows the collection of information to be optimised, in terms of costs and space, avoiding voluminous paper folders, which are now obsolete and difficult to consult.
